13 Best Dog Brushes for Shedding Short, Long, and Thick Fur

dog hair brush

First, make sure the brush you choose is gentle on your dog's skin. Give plenty of treats during brushing sessions, and stop if your dog is showing signs of stress. It's better to break brushing up into mini-sessions rather than stress your dog out.

Best curry comb: Bodhi Dog Bath Brush

The dryer is made in the United States and comes in several bright colors. Like most dryers, it’s pretty loud, so be prepared for noise. This popular dog blow dryer comes with four grooming nozzles so you can choose based on the length and type of your dog’s fur. The hose expands to about 6 feet long, so you can work easily around your pet with the dryer sitting on the floor or a table. There’s not a lot of temperature control—it’s either cold or heat—but there’s a knob that lets you control the airflow significantly, ranging from 65 mph to 135 mph. If you keep your dog in a shorter clip, brushing once or twice a week and focusing on areas that tend to get matted like the tail, feet, butt, and behind the ears is probably enough.

Frisco Microfiber Dog & Cat Bath Towel

The dryer and two speeds and two temperature controls, although many people say to use the high sparingly. Like other dryers, the fur can go flying and it can clog the filter. But the filter is very easy to clean so you’re quickly back in business. If the hair between the paw pads gets matted, the only thing you can do is to use clippers to scoop between the paw pads and shave the mats out.

Shernbao Pet Grooming Hair Dryer

Like most pin and bristle brushes, it isn’t very easy to clean, but it’s hardly a deal-breaker for the price and versatility. The pin side is somewhat easier to clean than the bristle side, and we recommend clearing out all the hair you collect after each brushing session to prevent build-up. We like JW Pet's Gripsoft Soft Slicker Brush because it effectively detangles the coat and removes loose hair. It's stiff enough to untangle the coat but still gentle on the skin.

This article was researched and written by Mary Jo DiLonardo who has covered animals and pets for several decades. She is always searching for the healthiest and most effective products to use with them. There’s a 10-foot flexible hose that stretches when you need it and retracts when you don’t, so it’s not always in the way. The dryer comes in pink, purple, and green and has a removable filter for cleaning.

If you aren’t a professional groomer, where speed matters, the lack of a FurEjector button isn’t a big deal. The Furminator was the first dog de-shedding tool of this type to grab loose hair and remove it from short-haired dogs. There are many imitators, but Furminator is the first and the original.

Best Dog Brushes by Coat Type (Short Hair, Long Hair, Shedding Hair)

This is especially the case for dogs where the topcoat has been well brushed out, but the hair next to the skin has been neglected. This is a solid deshedding tool for removing undercoat from dogs with thick coats. There are no razors involved to cut the undercoat, and it reaches deeper into thick coats better than a slicker brush. This type of tool pulls out undercoat without cutting it like some other dog deshedding tools do. Furminator didn’t invent this tool, but they’ve made a high-quality version of it. The Zoom Groom was one of the first rubber curry brushes on the market, and to this day, it’s one of the best.

The good news is that this type of shedding prone hair doesn’t mat easily. But you’ll still want to brush your dog at least once a week to prevent shed hair from floating around your home. Hair trapped in your dog’s coat can also lead to overheating. Be sure to brush your dog thoroughly before washing them, because water makes mats worse.

Slicker brushes consist of brush heads covered with short, tightly-packed wire pins angled to go through the coat and avoid the skin. Use them on medium-coated, long-coated, wire-coated, and curly-coated dogs to remove mats (and prevent mats from forming) by removing loose hair. Maintain a light touch when using slicker brushes, as pressing down hard could cause your dog discomfort.

For the rear legs, comb down the hair at the base of the foot and trim around the foot. Carefully trim the hair on the stifle to blend with the hock, following the contour of the leg. Blend the rear furnishings by extending the line of the underbelly and curve at the start of the rear leg into the furnishings.

Our top overall pick is the Shelandy Pet Hair Force Dryer, an affordable choice that comes with four grooming nozzles and variable airflow. The Shernbao comes with three nozzles so you can direct air or spread it out to cover more fur. It has two air filters and a flexible hose that stretches from 4 to 8 feet. The hose, some groomers warm, can get very warm after a lot of use. It is more expensive than many dryers, but fans say these dryers can handle a lot of grooming sessions. Noise is relative (ask your dog), but fans of the Go Pet Club Pet Grooming Hair Dryer say it’s relatively quiet compared to other dryers they’ve tried.

It’s relatively easy to clean with an ejector button that pushes hair and dandruff out of the blades. There are several versions based on your dog’s size and hair type. Brushing a dog’s hair is a beneficial way to keep their coat free of tangles and mats—which can be uncomfortable and even lead to health complications if not addressed. Plus, the practice of grooming your dog will help to reduce the amount of shedding you find throughout your home.

The 8 Best Dog Hair Dryers of 2024

To avoid skin irritation, choose the right brush for your dog's coat type and avoid overbrushing. "There can be such a thing as too much brushing," Edmond said. "Overbrushing causes something called brush burn, which is an irritation of the skin. Slicker brushes used on short-haired dogs can cause brush burn faster." Grooming gloves are great for shedding dogs that run away when you bring out the brush.

Feel Cutting Scissors

Pinhead brushes look a lot like human hairbrushes, with medium-spaced wire pins all over the brush head, often with rubber tips to prevent scratching the skin. Although commonly used, these aren’t the most versatile of brushes. They’re best used as finishing brushes for long-coated breeds to smooth the hair and remove dirt, and to work through tangles on wire-coated dogs. You can often find double-sided dog brushes that combine pinhead brushes with bristle brushes. The Hartz Groomer's Best Combo Dog Brush is effective, versatile, and suitable for a variety of dog coats. One side has stainless steel pins that can help untangle knots and collect loose hair, particularly for dogs with long, curly, or wiry fur.

#6- Professional Deshedding Tool for Dogs & Cats

This is a well-made brush that is designed to last for a long time and is suitable for a wide range of dogs in all shapes and sizes. Hold the dog’s head straight and then comb the eyebrows forward. With the scissors held vertically, trim the outer edge of the eyebrow in line with the widest part of the skull. Place the scissors against the side of the head, just behind the corner of the eye. To keep the eyebrow hair in place while cutting, you can wet the eyebrow, use styling gel or hair spray. There are many types, styles and price levels of electric clippers.

Legs

When used gently, it will not pull on the fur or skin of your pet, and the handle is ergonomic for comfort and to give you more control. Our German Shepherd tester seemed to love how it felt on his skin and actually leaned in for more brushing. Hair just keeps coming and coming the first few times you use the de-shedder, which is why this tool has so many fans. “Absolutely worth the price,” said one tester who tried both the long-hair version on her border collie and the short-hair model on her pit bull.

The B-Air Fido Max 1 Dog Dryer is an affordable at-home dog hair dryer that uses air power and not heat to repel water from your dog’s fur. Instead, there are two speeds—high and low—and the dryer comes with four nozzle attachments to help direct airflow to different parts of your dog’s coat. The dryer also has a 3-foot hose and a 10-foot cord so you have plenty of room to move while you groom. Are you in search of the perfect dog brushes to pamper your furry friend? Our range of dog grooming brushes caters to every canine's coat type, ensuring you'll find the ideal dog brush to suit your pet's unique needs. For matting that’s right next to the dog’s skin, layer brushing is usually the best technique to remove mats.

A home made one will do if you are handy or know anyone that is handy. The most important factors to consider when making your own is to have a non-skid top, sturdiness and for the height of the table to be comfortable for the groomer. The dog needs to be taught to stand up and stand still while he’s being groomed.

The 20-millimeter size is recommended for short coats, 27 millimeters for medium to long coats, and 35 millimeters for long, thick, full coats. A Miniature Schnauzer should be bathed as often as necessary. Be careful not to get water and shampoo in the ears, eyes and mouth when bathing the dog. You can put cotton balls in the dogs ears to help prevent water from getting in the ear canal. To rinse the beard, point the sprayer away from the dogs head and direct the stream down the beard. When wetting the top of the head, lift the head up and direct the spray towards the back of the dog.

Dog Brushes

If you catch a mat behind the ears when it’s still small and not right next to the skin, you may be able to brush out the mat. This two-pack of combs gives you everything you need to comb every inch of your dog and comfortable enough handles to give you the patience to do so. These dogs may shed a little all year, but they typically blow most of their undercoat all at once anywhere from one to four times per year. "Deshedding tools are a groomer's best friend," said Edmond, who has a Furminator in her personal grooming tool kit. "It is so satisfying to use this on a husky or German shepherd during heavy shedding seasons."

For dogs with dense undercoats, this tool can help to collect loose hair and skin flakes before they have the chance to stick to your sofa. The stainless steel toothy edge moves through the dog’s topcoat to pull any loose undercoat hair. There’s a curved guard around the blade to keep it from getting too close to the skin.

The Furminator comes with a FurEjector button to quickly pop off hair and let you keep working. As a dog groomer for more than 12 years, here are my top picks for best dog brushes for shedding along with tools for dematting large dogs. While this type of hair does shed, the undercoat gets tangled with the topcoat, and regular brushing is enough to remove the loose hair. Tools designed to remove undercoat will damage fine, straight hair. For pets with longer short hair, such as Labs, you can use a fine-tooth comb to remove loose hair from your dog, as well. The five-finger design allowed me to gently brush all over, including her head, face, body, legs, and tail, while the soft rubber nodules gently collected fur.

The wiry topcoat will become soft with clippering, but clippering is easier, less expensive to have done, and easier on the dog. This Frisco Microfiber Dog & Cat Bath Towel measures 44 by 27.5 inches so it's big enough to dry off dogs of any size. Shernbao is a popular pet dryer/blower brand with professional groomers. It is quieter than some other similar models, but that’s relative because they are all pretty loud.

If you use a rinse-out conditioner after shampooing your dog, make sure you rinse them THOROUGHLY. Any trace amounts of shampoo or conditioner left in your dog’s fur can cause dander-like flakes at best and severe skin issues (including a staph bacterial infection) at worst. To get your dog used to the sound and pressure of high-velocity de-shedding, you should start with the nozzle off and the dryer on the lowest setting. Aim the air toward the back end of your dog’s body to let them get used to it as you gradually increase the pressure and put the nozzle back on. These dog combs have a comfortable handle that protects your hands while you comb your dog. Both a small and a large comb are included, and both have coarse teeth on one end and fine teeth on the other, so you’ll have exactly what you need for each task.

Nikes House of Innovation Flagship Is a Temple to Shopping in the Digital Age

nike house of innovation

There wasn’t enough in-depth storytelling to walk away having learnt something around what Innovation means for Nike. This was a shame as we’d all love to see some super nerdy content about what actually makes Nike shoes what they are, in easily-digestible bits. Of the above cool facts only #1 was on display for curious customers — #2–4 we found out by talking to an (admittedly very knowledgeable) Nike ‘expert’. So much thought and consideration has gone into details of the design — it’s a shame not more of that great content is shared more visibly. Featuring a “digitally powered” end-to-end consumer experience, the outpost is the latest representation of “Nike’s bold vision for the future of retail,” according to Cathy Sparks, global VP and GM of Global Nike Direct Stores and Service.

They have succeeded in achieving one of the most challenging tasks in design terms — bringing holistic cohesion to an environment hosting many different visual styles, and functionalities. It’s kinetic, exploratory, and engaging, and prioritises individuality and personalization above all else. It’s an unequivocally cool space, with lots of Nike products, which of course draws a crowd. And the buying process uses technology to create pretty seamless, high-speed, hassle-free ways to purchase through an app.

Don't miss tomorrow's retail industry news

The House of Innovation 000 also works with the Nike App to bring you a more convenient retail experience. With NikePlus Member Unlocks, customers can request an item be brought to them for fitting. The app also features Shop The Look, which lets you scan in-store mannequins to learn more about what they're wearing, and even browse sizing. Quite possibly the best aspect of the House of Innovation and Nike App working together is Instant Checkout.

Lifetime Shopping Discount

In theory, a great idea, but the mannequins were either dressed in outfits only a Nike mannequin could wear, or in looks so high fashion it was really difficult to decipher what the individual elements were and how you could put them into a look for yourself. In this case, Nike would have done better to be a bit more practical in order to help people shop easily (for ‘Nike Women Yoga Favorites’ for example) and leave the high fashion to the L05 Expert Studio. The mass appeal of the Sneaker Lab did however make us reflect on how much, beyond the enticing world of experiential and lifestyle type offerings, connecting to a brand is still inextricably linked to the love we have for the products they create. On L04 is the Sneaker Lab, which displays the largest collection of seasonally current Nike footwear anywhere. We’ve taken a close look at the 6-story retail mecca in New York — with the intention to be purposefully critical, looking into what is most successful, and where there might be further opportunities.

Innovation for Athletes*

Customers gather here to customize their kicks however they please—from a faux ostrich Swoosh to a rainbow of laces. In a separate, glowing cube next to this counter, store employees in white lab coats (internally referred to as “Athletes”) dip-dye, stencil, and embroider the shoes. Titel Media GmbH (Highsnobiety), is committed to facilitating and improving the accessibility and usability of its Website, Titel Media GmbH strives to ensure that its Website services and content are accessible to persons with disabilities including users of screen reader technology. To accomplish this, Titel Media GmbH tests, remediates and maintains the Website in-line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), which also bring the Website into conformance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

As previously mentioned, the House of Innovation 000 provides visitors with various customization experiences. The store is equipped with two maker's studios, including a full customization wing on The Arena. Here, customers can take advantage of laces, fabrics, decals, and more to truly personalize purchases. Today Nike opens the doors to its new 68,000-square-foot flagship store in New York City, referred to as the House of Innovation 000. The massive space spans six stories, including one below street level, located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 52nd Street.

On a particularly miserable, damp day in Manhattan, people milled throughout the store—trying on shoes amid heaps of shopping bags, or pausing to watch Athletes customize apparel within their glowing workshops. Unfortunately, its shopping appeal outweighed any feelings of reverence, and hence it was the busiest and noisiest floor. To conjure ‘contemplative museum’ over ‘crowded marketplace’, it might have been more daring to showcase the shoes as one views precious objects, and offer buying only online or direct through the app. Using the product (in this case shoes) as a symbol, rather than purely as a commodity to be purchased, would elevate a simple display to another level. Are such bells and whistles enough to draw an audience beyond tourist-laden Fifth Avenue?

In our last piece, we outlined a range of shifts and pulls within the retail landscape. This broad-brush portrayal of insights prompted many questions, and inspired us to delve deeper, to understand how some of these bold and leading-edge retail spaces are actually being experienced ‘live’. There's also a floor dedicated to customizable apparel, which includes not just changing the color of certain garments, but also switching out materials and even combining two different pieces of clothing into something entirely new. For a look at NYC's incredible new Nike flagship, open as of today, November 15, see the on-hand imagery. The fourth floor's Sneaker Lab alone houses the largest concentration of Nike footwear anywhere in the world, allowing you to browse through cutting-edge performance silhouettes as well as a bevy of classics. Although for right now the House of Innovation flagships are limited to just New York and Shanghai, Sparks said they plan to open one in Paris in December of 2019, and a new Nike Live store is in the works for Tokyo, though it hasn't been completed yet.

Grab-and-go shoppers head to the store’s basement Speed Shop for Nike mainstays (Air Force 1s, running tights) and storage lockers for fast pickup service. Here and throughout the rest of the building, shoppers check out with their phones without once, in theory, having to interact with an employee. Each floor of the House of Innovation 000 provides customers with a different experience, many of which offer personalized customization and convenient shopping with digital aids. This area utilizes local data in order to stock and restock its shelves based on consumer wants.

Despite debuting a month after the China outpost, the Manhattan location was dubbed House of Innovation 000 (Shanghai was 001) — a sprawling 68,000-square-foot, six-floor space that promises visitors a peek into some of the brand’s most cutting-edge creations in an experiential retail environment. Nike were also looking to innovate through the use of technology via the Nike app. An attempt at enhancing the actual buying experience was the ‘scan an outfit’ option in the app.

nike house of innovation

There's a customization lab on one side just past the entrance and a massive structure (what Nike executives are calling a "beacon") stretching up through the entryway to the five floors above it. From customizable sneakers and apparel to a localized Speedshop for New York customers, the flagship does just about everything — including mobile. Just beyond, at the back of the space, a glowing counter is set against a video backdrop.

Designed as a celebration of the sports brand’s trailblazing spirit, the store gives visitors a peek behind the curtain of how things are done and created at Nike. In addition to giving shoppers an avenue with which to create their own products, the flagship is also focused on showing customers where the brand has been. The retailer also plans to host footwear designers in the flagship to talk to customers about the shoes they've created, the designing process and what the features do for the shopper. That's not to mention a sneaker lounge on the Sneakerlab floor, which displays a series of Nike's recent sneaker releases in a mirrored room — a form of storytelling which Madden describes as an "invitation" for customers to join the sneaker community. Nike recognizes that customers are used to shopping on the internet, and it is banking on a set of in-house app capabilities to make in-person shopping a seamless, almost digital experience, rather than a hassle. Visitors add garments via QR codes to a virtual dressing room list; when they’re finished with browsing, they can head to a fitting room where their items will be waiting.

Perhaps one thing for the future would be to further consider the layers of content that can be woven into a space — informing visitors to whichever level they feel appropriate and manageable on that day. This could also trigger more repeat visits as, more like a museum, you might learn a bit more each time. While it sounds grandiose, Sparks' words might be an understatement, if anything. Nike's flagship lets shoppers do just about anything that comes to mind (especially with the app). Quick customizations on a pair of sneakers usually take 5-10 minutes, while larger projects — including a one-on-one meeting with a Nike employee to discuss the changes — generally take just 30 minutes to an hour, according to Madden. Those few hanging around inside the House of Innovation — Nike's most recent flagship — were store employees, Nike corporate employees and various members of the media.

Here, in a loungelike setting, members of NikePlus (a free service available through Nike’s app and website) can schedule one-on-one apparel consultations for a big race or for a night out. Here too, as on the first floor, shoppers can work with specialists to customize and remix their clothing. “As stores moved from transaction to experience, we are also moving from transaction to relationship,” explains Madden.

Nike Paris Flagship: This Is What Its Like Inside the Store

Its pristine white inner sanctum is a nod to Nike’s “canvas,” the triple white sneaker. Such design moves recall Snarkitecture’s work for Kith (the New York sneakerhead mecca) and undoubtedly intend to capture a similar hypebeast clientele. But at the House of Innovation, Nike places its status as a footwear originator and innovator front and center, from a sculptural knitting machine (similar to the tractor beam downstairs) to the guts of a Nike Zoom Vaporfly Elite splayed out on a table. In November, Nike opened a 68,000-square-foot store devoted to it on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue, calling it Nike House of Innovation 000. The flagship, the first of its kind in the United States, is not only a shrine to sportswear but an homage to Nike’s unique design process—past and future.

LIFTING THE VEIL ON A NEW RETAIL CONCEPT

Aside from serving as an entryway, the bottom floor is also a hint that what's to come is not just a collection of the latest merchandise on hangers — it's an experience that is meant to be personalized, customized, walked through, examined and even played with, in some ways. Meanwhile, Nike’s House of Innovation outposts are intended for hot-spot tourist cities — a move that may become increasingly risky with tourist traffic waning in key cities as governments try to stem the spread of the coronavirus. But Sparks said the brand is optimistic that tourist traffic will reaccelerate in the not-too-distant future. The series debuts with a tour of a tranquil upstate New York retreat designed with Passive House principles.

The executive, who boasts a 22-year career with the Beaverton, Ore.-based company, shed more light on the store concept at WWD’s Retail 2030 forum on Wednesday. The unique elements of the store were mostly on the top and bottom floors, but with mixed success.

That futuristic vision is fully articulated inside the store where on the ground floor, a full-scale digital billboard, which can both be programmed to fit the message at hand, and animated digital graphics pack a punch. ‘The space is essentially a black box that enables stories to come to life in a variety of different manners. The ceiling infrastructure is rigged for theatrical lighting, so the idea around the architecture is that it’s not going to fight with storytelling but enable it.’Each floor of the flagship consistently reinforces this holistic integration of design.

Inside retail supply chains

For the Nike familiarist, a speed shop filled with the brand’s top ten bestselling essentials, located on the basement floor, makes it easy to grab what you’re missing and go. Nike has unveiled its new flagship store on Manhattan’s illustrious Fifth Avenue and it’s a six-floor immersive brand temple that seeks to redefine the retail experience.Real life shopping has been given a run for its money by its digital counterpart. Spanning six floors and measuring 68,000 sq ft, the Nike House of Innovation 000 is a carefully orchestrated retail experience that will hypnotise both fans and passers-by, alike.

Company Announcements

In both concepts, convenience and customization seem to be top priorities for the iconic sports brand, but collecting customer data is high on the list. And the members-based mobile app, which features so heavily throughout the store, is the retailer's best way of doing that. Despite being sprawled over 6 floors, and designed to offer varied services within compartmentalised environments, HOI impressively does feel like one cohesive and connected place.

STRIKING A BALANCE BETWEEN WORK AND SPORT

This time we also had an ‘on the ground’ team of experience and spatial strategists, visiting the store on different days, to help us uncover meaningful insights. The first Nike House of Innovation 001 opened in Shanghai, followed promptly by the New York flagship 000, and with a third on its way in Paris. Across each location, Nike presents cross-category, consumer-focused spaces and experiences, and promises city-exclusive items specific to each city. For this piece, we’re zooming in on Nike’s new retail concept ‘House of Innovation’ to suss out if it’s delivering on its promises to customers, and achieving its goals as a pioneer in the retail scene. With a name like "House of Innovation" — which was already introduced through the launch of Nike's Shanghai flagship last month — it's no wonder the store is full of customization opportunities. It's also a lesson in mobile technology that actually adds utility (and convenience) for the shopper.

That particular convenience play, also available at Nike by Melrose, the retailer's first Nike Live store, is aimed at New York's busiest shoppers, who have a floor called the "Speedshop" dedicated just to them and their local tastes. While Nike by Melrose opened before the brand's latest flagship, Sparks noted that it was actually the idea behind the Speedshop in New York that led Nike to create the smaller, more localized and intimate store in Los Angeles. One truly unique element of this store is the Nike by You maker space that sits within the Nike Arena on L01. It is absolutely brilliant that people can, essentially, design their own shoes. It is a 2-day commitment (not obvious at first glance), but we liked the idea of having to return to the store and invest more time, something more likely to appeal to locals.

EMPLOYEE STORE

Shots of Nike athletes and new products play on a loop from screens placed at all angles around the "beacon." But there's no music, really, nor even words — just sounds. It's jarring and distracting without the usual lull of top 40s playing in the background, but that's how it's supposed to be, according to Sean Madden, senior director of product for Nike Direct, who said it was about the "energy," "clash" and "noise" of New York City. The store, the first of its kind in Europe and the latest of only three Nike flagship experiences in the world — the others are in New York and Shanghai — spans 26,000 square feet and four floors. The Manhattan flagship, the first of its kind in the United States, is not only a shrine to sportswear but an homage to Nike’s unique design process—past and future.

In addition, you can visit the Sneaker Bar and solicit the assistance of a store athlete or a digital read-out of locals-only data. Customers then have the opportunity to reserve items with just a phone call and have them held in an in-store locker for convenient pickup. "We actually talk about the House of Innovation as, really, Nike experiences for the world," Sparks said of the difference between the retailer's new flagship and its popular store in SoHo. "It's where we're going to give the deepest dive into our product innovation and the stories behind the designs and we'll be focused on large, global sports moments and how they come to life in New York City." "Part of the goal of this experience is that we're bringing our stories to life on the world's biggest stage," Cathy Sparks, global vice president and general manager of Nike Direct stores, told Retail Dive in an interview in the women's section of the store. "Doing it the way that retail's always operated by bringing the best product, the best experiences to life, but what we've added to this location is the really strong integration of digital and physical and allowing them to take their shopping experience into their own hands."

nike house of innovation

As part of its growth strategy, Nike is also moving ahead with plans to open up to 200 new smaller-format, digitally enabled “monobrand” stores across North America and in the EMEA regions. To address safety during the ongoing global health crisis, the store is also outfitted with hand sanitizing stations and will encourage social distancing through tailored lighting that directs shoppers to remain six feet apart. “Obsession” and “iteration” accurately describe the building’s exterior—a gleaming six-story grid of undulating glass. The facade is an innovation in itself, a multidisciplinary effort helmed by Nike’s Beaverton, Oregon–based design team with input from Rockwell Group, Mode Lab, CallisonRTKL, and Heintges Consulting Architects & Engineers.

If a customer uses their phone to request a certain size to try on in, say, the shoe department, an employee will bring that out to a "pick up" station on the floor, which is meant to allow shoppers to keep shopping. The retailer has set up Instant Checkout kiosks on every floor, complete with bags and a slot for hangers, to let customers check themselves out with the app if they don't feel like waiting in line. It remains to be seen whether such innovations will be picked up in retail generally (Puma, for its part, inked a deal for a flagship just two blocks away) or readily embraced by customers, but that’s not hampering Nike devotees from flooding in.

We use vendors that may also process your information to help provide our services. This site is protected by reCAPTCHA Enterprise and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. Amid a challenged global macroeconomic backdrop that has forced many traditional retailers to close up shop, Nike Inc. is forging ahead with several brick-and-mortar concepts.

The designers wanted to convey a sense of movement across the building, so they turned to slumping, a technique for bending red-hot glass beneath its own weight to lend strength and beauty. Each glass panel ripples with uniform etched waves angled at 23.5 degrees—the precise angle of Nike’s iconic Swoosh. It’s the sort of building Mies would have created had he gotten hold of a pair of Air Force 1s. This new mark in the retail landscape is undoubtedly the ultimate opportunity for Nike to get ahead by being heavily purpose-led, rather than being just another shop stacked with stuff. By providing your information, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.

All-in-all, the mobile features are focused on easing the customer's path to purchase. And it also comes into play for customers who saw something online but want to check it out in store before they buy. For those shoppers, the app allows them to pick up reserved items in a set of lockers by scanning their member pass. "Nike Arena," the floor most customers enter on, doesn't actually have any product on it. There's a large customization area where consumers can make changes to a pair of shoes they liked — change the color of the laces, of a Swoosh, of the whole shoe — and some other artistic elements, like the aforementioned "beacon," but the majority of the product is still to come. The fourth floor marks a dramatic shift in the store’s design language and hosts what to many will be the main attraction—the Nike Sneaker Lab, home to the largest collection of the brand’s footwear in the world.

“[It’s where people] can come in, have a seat, chat with our store team, who will likely offer them a kombucha from the local coffee shop down the street that’s in a fridge right behind the bar — and provide the fastest sneaker-selling service in the country,” she said. There were installations and moments throughout the store that alluded to sneak peeks into the process of making. On L04, for example, a series of screens on tripods and tables with laptops featuring calculations and drawings hinted at some of the stories behind the creation of the LeBron shoe, but on closer inspection they were more eye candy, and less about the science behind. We can see the intention here was to share snippets of the process — but we felt more could have been revealed.

I ordered a year supply of contacts after the exam. When I went to pick them up, I noticed the box was not the same as what I currently have. I questioned whether these were a different brand, the receptionist checked my file, and assured me that this was correct and what the doctor ordered. I thought maybe the company had changed the box design since I last ordered a year ago. I was told that I would have to come back in to get refitted. I explained that the doctor did the contact fit exam with the contacts that I usually wear.

These forward-looking statements involve risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from those projected or anticipated. This was the worst experience I have ever had with a doctor. I read the previous reviews, and the majority of them were very positive. My family moved to the area, so I was looking for a good eye doctor for my family. On the plus side, they did get me in for an eye exam in about a week. I was pretty disappointed that the doctor didn't even bother to introduce himself to me during the exam.

They always go above and beyond to find the perfect glasses. Highly recommended House of Optical for exams and glasses.

House of Optical has numerous physicians working there, so I had no idea who I was seeing. I took a pair of unopened contact lenses with me, so the doctor could see the brand I usually wear. I told him I was happy with this brand and had issues with other brands.

I only had to wait about 5 minutes before getting my eye exam which went really fast and smooth. Their frame selection is perfectly adequate. House of Optical is the go to place for eyeglasses.

Good in the way of being quick with the eye exam but WAY too pushy on buying frames from them (poor selection options, quality, and pricing compared to other brands like Warby Parker). Family Optometry

Of course, the doctor I saw was at lunch, but I did speak with a very apologetic manager. Seeing the script was also the first time I was able to see the name of the doctor who did my exam - Dr. Robert Feldman. The manager assured me she would get the script corrected, and email it to me. When I received the "corrected" script, the brand of contacts was now correct, but the script was still inaccurate. Only my nearsighted measurement was on the script, not the entire multifocal prescription.

Once again, I had to contact the office and get this corrected. I will not be returning, nor will I allow my family to go there. I do not recommend House of Optical to anyone.

I’m a very happy patient of House of Optical. They always give be great care and service and have a fantastic selection of frames. Last night my mother was visiting me from (way) out of town and my bad bunny thought her glasses were an excellent toy and made them almost unwearable. Despite not being a patient/customer, they helped us make them wearable again and didn’t charge us a dime.

I had never worn the brand he prescribed, nor did he ever discuss changing brands with me during the exam. The receptionist told me, sorry but in order to get another brand I had to have another refit exam. I then told her I wanted to return these contacts and get my written prescription, and I would order my contacts elsewhere. When I went to House of Optical, and returned the contacts and got my script, I noticed the script had the same incorrect contact lens brand on it. I asked to have this corrected, and was told this was all they had on file, and I would need a refit. At this point I asked to speak with a doctor or manager.

While my living room doesn’t have the space for this gorgeous rattan cocoon, I’m in luck because it’s actually an OUTDOOR chair! The flexibility is definitely a plus and this badboy might be making an appearance on my patio this summer. About two months after their dash to Las Vegas, the Stahls decided to drive up to this mystery spot and have a look around. They found themselves gawping at the entirety of Los Angeles spread out below in a grid that went on for an eternity or two. In the kismet-filled conversation that followed, Buck agreed to buy the barren one-eighth-acre lot for $13,500, with $100 down and the seller maintaining the mortgage until the Stahls paid it off. For generations of pilgrims, gawkers, architecture students, and midcentury-modern aficionados, it would be known simply as the Stahl House.

Middle Eastern styles feature heavily in this bathroom, which is classic in boho design. Heavy, lush, vintage fabrics and an antiqued chandelier work together to make this boho bath into something special. The mixed patterns and the unexpected metal of the tub fill out the room into a boho design dream space.

Bright colors and bold patterns combine with layered textiles in this space to create a classic boho vibe. Ethnic-designed plates, a collection of plants, as well as the Oriental stork-themed wallpaper and the big plants, make this bathroom a boho lover's dream retreat. The black and white of this bathroom might not be bold or vibrant like some of the boho baths we've seen, but the mixture of patterns created makes a definite statement for this style. This space is finished off with soft candlelight and plenty of plants to bring a natural element to the room, a staple for this particular design theme.

When used in combination with the plant life and mirror display on the wall, this bathroom lands solidly in the boho style. This is a relaxing space that adds boho accents beautifully and creates a charming design without making any major changes to the base of the room. The woven basket, rug, and plant hangings are great ways to include a bohemian vibe in a bathroom you may not be able to do much with, such as in an apartment or rental home.

Because even the smallest room in your home deserves to look amazing. You’ll spend time in your bathroom every day, so it’s worth taking the time to decorate it in a way you love. Opt for natural soap, wicker or rattan baskets, and a bamboo pot to hold your toothbrush.

Upgraded Bathroom Mirrors

Choose a free-standing bathtub, better a clawfoot one, to achieve that cool boho look. Go for wooden furniture – vanities, cabinets, wood-clad mirrors, bathroom caddies – they can vintage or of more modern looks depending on the ambience you want. You may also try to add some texture and interest with shiny details like a hammered metal sink, a copper side table, a tree stump ottoman for a bolder look.

Opt for a Morrocan Rug

I see the walls covered with a vibrant floral shower curtain that makes me feel like I’m basking in a sunlit garden. The walls are alive with floral tapestry and bright embroidery, making you feel like you’re inside a vibrant garden. Imagine stepping into this boho-style bathroom where every corner is bursting with color and life.

The colors are a festival, with a basin that’s a piece of art in itself. There’s an eclectic mix of patterns and textures that just oozes creativity. Now, onto a room that feels like a Bohemian cave, with mosaic tiles climbing the walls and the ceiling. A colorful rug lies on the floor, leading to a cozy nook where a warm bath awaits. Add instant visual appeal and character to your Boho bathroom with a shower curtain. Go for one that is rich in pattern and color, nature-inspired, artistic, whimsical motifs, and other captivating designs.

Turkish Bath Towels

There’s something about bohemian design that instantly relaxes and lightens up a space. Bohemian decor is all about using natural elements to create an indoor oasis. Things like house plants and earthy tones can be used to bring an eclectic vibe to your home.

Ideas to Create a Cozy, Casual, California-Inspired Retreat

Decorating your bathroom with unique objects and decorative pieces will ultimately make the space feel more inviting and connected to you and your personal style. Luxury bathroom ideas are becoming increasingly popular when planning bathroom designs for the home. Creating a serene space that takes inspiration from a luxurious spa is a great way to create your very own relaxing retreat at home.

Bathrooms are the perfect room to incorporate boho elements to make your space feel natural, earthy, and overall relaxing. There is an undeniable allure around the idea of California living. The West Coast aesthetic is all about good vibes and well-balanced spaces that bring the outdoors in. San Francisco–based decorator Lauren Nelson consistently delivers on the coveted cool-and-relaxed style in the rooms she designs. “I always pay close attention to the natural light in the space and choose textural elements and furniture that complement and enhance it,” says the designer.

One of the things I love about this design style is the way it feels - it's casual, yet sophisticated, and it's always really inviting. These spaces are typically bright and airy with white walls, lots of textures, and warm woods. There's often a hint of clean-lined mid-century and definitely some coastal modern nods.

Replace your bathroom mirror with a more contemporary design to uplift your bathroom space. Bathroom mirrors with rounded or organic shapes can look quite modern and can drastically freshen up your bathroom. Another relatively cheap albeit time consuming trend is to add patterned or boho wallpaper to your bathroom. Although it may take a whole weekend to complete, you’ll be more impressed with the results! Colorful wallpaper can turn any drab bathroom into a beautiful, personalized space. Without doing too much major remodeling, you can transform your bathroom into a bohemian oasis.

Because the boho style is so versatile, it’s easy to utilize texture, patterns, colors, funky prints, and plants. Boho takes on a mix of cultural elements, art, and personal aesthetics so there are so many styles and possibilities to choose from. With its layered textures, lush greenery, and romantic lighting, the elements of bohemian design make it ideal for places where you want to relax. Boho design elements like natural textures, warm colors and prints, and candlelight make your bathroom feel like a sanctuary.

The woven llama basket in the upper corner and the plant, bring in the natural elements so loved in the boho design world. Natural wooden elements and an abundance of plant life are great markers for the boho design in this bathroom. Bold blue tile and candle accents create the perfect finish in this space, which ensured the bohemian look the owner was aiming for. The Morrocan print in the bowl of this sink combined with the bright and stainless fixture gives plenty of clues that this is definitely a boho bathroom. The sink pattern is borrowed from another culture, something common in bohemian style, and the artistic vibe, as well as the vibrant colors, in the dish are staples in this design theme.

It’s paired with a classic white tub, sporting lion’s paw feet for that regal touch. Now, consider a room where the walls are a midnight blue canvas, showcasing an explosion of floral artistry. A standalone golden tub takes center stage, with a wall mural that’s a cascade of flowers, creating a secret garden vibe. The floor is a patchwork of patterns, making every step an adventure.
